(Music and Dancing of the Gaels)
Bonny Lasses Lament
I had a lad and I loved him so well
That I hated all others who spoke of him ill
And though he rewarded me well for my love
He has gone to be wed to another
I saw my love into the church go
And with bright and fair maidens he made a fine show
And I stood looking on with a heart full of woe
For he's gone to be wed to another
I saw my love as he sat down to dine
And I sat down beside him and poured out the wine
And I drank to a love that should've been mine
Although he's been wed to another
Oh dig me a grave and dig it so deep
Cover it over with flowers so sweet
I'll lay myself down for to take the long sleep
Maybe in time I'll forget him
So they digged her a grave and they digged it so deep
And they covered it over with flowers so sweet
She's laid herself down for to take the long sleep
Maybe by now she's forgotten
Oh the men of the forest they ask it of me
How many strawberries grow in the salt sea
And I answered them back with a tear in my eye
How many ships sail in the forest?
